A chilling story once described as “the most frightening piece of television drama ever shown” is about to be given the live treatment on stage at the Loft Theatre in Leamington.

Of course, what was truly terrifying back in 1972 may not be all that scary in 2015.

But that’s not the view of Loft director Darren Scott who believes The Exorcism - not to be confused with The Exorcist - will have audiences on the edge of their seats and chill them to the bone.

The play runs from January 17 until January 24 and after the performance on January 19 there will even be a chance to discuss the plot and its spooky subject matter with Darren, along with members of the cast and crew.

The tale revolves around a Christmas Day house party where the guests gather to enjoy a lavish feast in the countryside. But the party atmosphere evaporates during a power cut.

Have the guests all drunk too much? Are they hallucinating?

Or is their idyllic country cottage haunted by something terrible from the past?

Darren says: “While this is a ghost story in the traditional sense, we are not offering up any spectral bodies or clanking chains.”
