Splatterings and reflections in double showcase at Leamington gallery

MODERN culture and human emotions on the one hand and the Warwickshire countryside and domestic life on the other are depicted in paintings by two different artists exhibiting together in Leamington.

Dripped, Dropped and Splattered, an eclectic collection by Mick Rafferty shows what can be done with pourable paints and themes from everyday life.

Influenced by the techniques of Jackson Pollock and Gerhardt Richter, Mike says he often begins his work with only a vague idea of what he actually wants to achieve,

Building up layers by pouring and dripping colourful commercial gloss paints, he keeps going until he feels happy with the result.

His work can be seen at Gallery 150 in Regent Court shopping centre in Livery Street until Sunday.

Also showing at the gallery are the fresh and vibrant acrylic paintings of Jen Manning, who likes to cover a range of subjects, including the Warwickshire countryside, domestic life, flowers, and landscapes.

Although she is a realist artist, Jen’s imagery, which makes use of shadow and light, aims to depict an escape from reality.

In Reflections on Life and Nature, an exhibition dedicated to the artist’s aunt who recently passed away, Jen presents a collection of more than 30 works, most of which have been created this year. She is a mainly self-taught artist but now paints portraits and commissions for private and corporate clients.

The gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11am to 6pm and on Sunday from 11am to 4pm. From Tuesday next week people will be able to see the work of Patricia Chamberlain.
