Remembering Coventry’s celebration of its FA Cup win

ON 16 May, 1987, Coventry’s streets were thronged with deliriously happy fans celebrating the city’s FA Cup victory.

In recent years at least one play has been written about the never-to-be-forgotten occasion based on personal memories of the time.

Now Richard Elms, head of creative media at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, is looking to collect hundreds of bits of home video footage to produce a new documentary to mark the 25th anniversary of what might well be the most momentous event since the Blitz.

Richard said: “Videos taken by people watching the match at Wembley, singing on their way back from the game, having football parties at home as well as clips of the parades and celebrations in the weeks afterwards will all help us re-ignite the passion and euphoria of the day.

“It will also complement our new exhibition, From Highfield Road to Wembley Way, which opens at the museum in April, to mark the 25th anniversary of the football club’s finest hour. “

All videos or films submitted for inclusion in the documentary must be owned by the donor.
