Photographers focus on helping two charities

STREET children of Brazil are the focus and beneficiaries of a photography exhibition and sale in Leamington.

Images captured by Gregory J Smith, founder of charity The Children At Risk Foundation (CARF), can be seen at Gallery 150 until Sunday June 19.

Since setting up CARF Norway in 1992, Smith has started ventures for young homeless people in Brazil. The foundation focuses on defending their rights and offering them the possibility to live and grow within a family-oriented context and healthy social environment.

It also organises activities to inspire children to discover talents that few of them would normally have the chance to develop.

All the way from South America, the collection of touching photographs reflect Smith’s passion for the cause and give viewers a glimpse into the everyday lives of the youngsters he has worked with. Proceeds of sales will be donated to the foundation.

Also on display at the gallery is work by professional photographer James Callaghan, who began his career taking pictures for Jaguar.

He now presents Personally, a series of photographs which reveal the more intimate sides to him.

Breaking away from the constraints of his profession, Callaghan’s images vary from scenes he has come across on his travels to objects or moments that have intrigued or amused him.

Profits from the sale of his pieces will be donated to Myton Hospice.

Run and showcased by Leamington Studio Artists, Gallery 150 in Regent Court shopping centre, Livery Street, is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 6pm and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
