Leamington cinema will put romance into Valentine’s Day

AUDREY Hepburn’s memorable charm in a much-loved classic romantic film is returning to the big screen at the Spa Centre for a Valentine’s Day viewing.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s sees young socialite Holly Golightly, played by Hepburn, in an idealised New York city during the early 1960s.

With a sprightly zest for life, Holly, whose lifestyle is so flippant she won’t even give her cat a name, dresses in the most perfect of designer clothes and spends her time going on expensive dates and to high-class parties with various men.

The carefree young lady maintains a childlike innocence and fails to return any of her escorts’ affections - but her attitude is tested when she meets her neighbour, aspiring writer Paul Varjack (George Peppard).

The screening, on Tuesday, starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £7.50 and include a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink, canapes and hand-made chocolates.

The Spa Centre Studio continues to screen The Iron Lady, starring the Academy Award winner Meryl Streep who has been nominated for an Oscar for her role as Margaret Thatcher in the film.

A biopic on the first and only female Prime Minister of the UK, the film shows Thatcher reflecting on her life - in politics and in private, while nearly senile and delaing with the death of her husband.

The Iron Lady is on until Sunday, with screenings today (Friday) and tomorrow at 5pm and on Sunday at 7pm.

Steven Spielberg’s epic First World War drama, War Horse, is also currently showing at the Newbold Terrace venue.

Adapted from the novel by Michael Morpurgo, the Oscar-nominated film follows the growing friendship between man and beast as Albert trains Joey, and then follows him across the England after the pair are forcibly separated.

The film opens tonight at 7.45pm and is showing until Sunday February 19.

And from Friday February 21 to Thursday February 27, cinema-goers can catch another Oscar-nomination, The Artist.

It’s 1927 and George Valentin is a silent film star at the top of his game - that is, until the arrival of sound revolutionises the film industry and threatens his career.

Peppy Miller, a talented young film fan, breathes new life into the studios but for George, her arrival is both a blessing and a curse as she turns out to be not just a love interest, but also a studio rival.
