Kenilworth’s Jubilee House art is royal head turner

Local artist and curator Tim Robottom, from Brink, was commissioned to create the work for the town on behalf of Kenilworth Town Council as part of the royal visit by HRH the Duke of Gloucester.

Constructed from steel, and depicting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in side profile, the wall-mounted silhouette sculpture aims to have a very contemporary feel.

By day it appears as shiny silver and by night it is illuminated by a halo of multi-coloured LED lights.

Mr Robottom said: “I am honoured to have had the opportunity to work on this amazing project and to put something memorable into Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

“I am also very proud to think that my creation will be seen by a great many people.”

Permission to use the image of the Queen was granted by Buckingham Palace, and was accompanied with a note sending compliments to the artist from Her Majesty.

Cllr Dave Shilton, who was involved in the commissioning of the work, said: “This piece of iconic art is a wonderful addition to the new council building, which will be seen by residents and visitors to the town for many years to come,

“Tim has done a brilliant job putting this project together, and I would like to thank him on behalf of the whole town.”
