Kenilworth group takes a humorous look at our female monarchs

A COMICAL run-through of the history of British queens will add a humorous flavour to Jubilee celebrations at the Talisman Theatre in Kenilworth this week.

While everybody knows that 2012 is a special year for our current monarch, queens and princesses have actually been part of the nation’s gossip, tales and adoration for many more years.

With overtones of Horrible Histories, directors Vicky Whitehill and June Malcolm will present Jubilee, a series of songs and sketches that they say will “amuse, divert and, very occasionally, educate”.

Skipping lightly through the history of British queens, from Guinevere to Elizabeth II, the show playfully celebrates their achievements - and otherwise.

The theatre company has assembled a celebration of these heroines and villainesses of British history from the research of Warwick playwright Nevil Malin, presenting it as part of the annual Kenilworth Festival.

The ensemble performance ensures that the cast get to play queens - and kings and others - of all ages and personalities, including the ‘licentious’ Caroline of Brunswick, every single wife of ‘Ennery the Eighth’, an unamused Queen Victoria and good Queen Bess.

The show runs from Thursday to Saturday (May 19) at 7:30pm. Tickets are available from the box office on 856548 and cost £6.
