How Lord Jones would fix it

A POLITICIAN and business leader who claims to know how to fix the nation will be sharing his secrets with the people of south Warwickshire next week.

Lord Digby Jones will talk about his new book, Fixing Britain, at the Bridge House Theatre in Warwick on Tuesday.

The book analyses the problems and opportunities for UK business, domestically and globally, and reveals Lord Jones’ thoughts on reforms of taxation and the public sector.

Reflecting on his experiences as a minister in Gordon Brown’s “government of all talents” and his time at the helm of the Confederation of British Industry, the Birmingham man offers a common sense approach to government and business leaders for steering the UK back onto a winning course.

Tickets to the talk, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £10 (£8 concessions) and are available by calling 776438 or from Warwick Books and Kenilworth Books.

The event is a joint venture between the two bookshops and the Warwick Words festival, which takes place in October but is running a programme of Xtra events throughout the spring and summer.

The line-up also includes international bestselling writer Jodi Picoult, who will speak at the Guy Nelson Hall on Thursday, actress Lynda Bellingham and author Arabella Weir, who are both visiting the town in June. For a full programme and to find out more about the festival, go online.

Organisers of the festival are reminding budding writers that there is only one week left to send in poems, short prose or scripts to be considered for publication into the Warwick Words book, which will be on sale at and after the festival. Entries must be submitted online or at the Tourist Information Centre in Jury Street, Warwick, by Friday April 15. Full details are on the website.
