Get up close to intriguing art in Leamington garden

A LEAMINGTON artist’s intriguing garden display has already been capturing the attention of passers-by.

So much so that Helena Godwin is now inviting people to her home to view her installation, which is made out of recycled objects, up close and talk to her about it.

Taking inspiration from the American folk art tradition of using bottles to ward of evil spirits, Helena has been working on the project since January, gradually adding objects as she gathered them.

Coloured bottles and CDs bring unusual shapes, shades and textures to the work, which carry a celebratory air to fit in with the current celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Helena said: “I found a lot of bottles last year and thought I had to do something with them. They represent how we throw away so much.

“The project has been shaped by its location, I have had to use objects of little or no monetary or artistic value, otherwise they will go missing. But I have to say that the objects have been very well respected.”

Anyone who wants to view the installation and meet Helena can drop in at her home at 199 Tachbrook Road on Saturday at any time between noon and 8pm.
