Coventry group’s romantic farce is amazing

This new, complex and extremely funny play is handled very well by the Wheatsheaf Players, whose range increases all the time. It’s a farce – in the nicest sense – with more twists than a little piggy’s tail.

Molly (Heather Evans), becalmed in the romantice doldrums after her husband James (Chris Jarvis) of 21 years goes off with a blonde bimbo, has been advised by feisty friends Fiona (Jane Beeswarwick) of a book that may help. The Marital Merry-Go-Round and has a six-point plan to get back on track. Molly feels she has nothing to lose.

So, step one: ‘Flaunt your assets’. Molly’s savings are invested in a week at a health spa where lurks masseur Steve (Wayne Woolley). The woman that emerges is beautiful, confident and mature. Steve is smitten.

Step 2: Tell the truth for 48 hours. Nosy neighbour Nancy (Anne Collins) is hit amidships with her BO problem.

Step 3: buy booze. Molly is a life-long tea-totaller so this hits her like a brick.

Step 4: be proactive, not reactive – kiss the first man to visit, but oops! it’s the virgin vicar David (Anthony Wilkes), beloved of lovely Lyn (Rebecca Keeves)

Step 5: reward romance - make love with the first man to buy you dinner. Oops! it’s Sexy Steve the masseur.

Step 6: say yes to everything. Confused?

Claire, Molly’s daughter (Christine Rye) is trying to engineer a reconciliation with James and so, at the heart of it, is Molly. Go and see it – it’s amazing.
