Children sing of hopes for future at Leamington church

‘BEAUTIFUL Africa’ will come to a Leamington church to raise funds for charity on Friday.

The Ugandan Children’s Choir, made up of ten adults and 22 children who have lost one or both of their parents, are performing at St Mark’s church in Rugby Road in support of Watoto, the charity that has helped them.

Their concert, Beautiful Africa, is an original African piece accompanied by a blend of colourful traditional and contemporary dance routines and tells the story of their hope and faith in a new generation of African leaders who are emerging.

The children all live in children’s homes run by Watoto, a care organisation which supports orphaned children - including former child soldiers - and vulnerable women in the war-torn community of northern Uganda.

The choir’s audiences have included the Queen, Presidents George Bush and Barrack Obama, and the UK, Australian, Canadian and Scottish parliaments, among others.

The free church concert starts at 7.30pm. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to call the church office on 778717 in advance of the performance.
