Children in Warwickshire needed for landmark concert

HUNDREDS of children from across Warwickshire will taking to the stage to sing at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre for a special celebration next month.

The Armonico Consort choir and orchestra is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and to mark their 300th concert, which falls in this summer, they are pulling out all the stops out for an event which will bring together the community from Stratford across to Coventry.

Up to 350 children, who will be singing in one of Armonico Consort’s AC Academy projects, will join 100 professional musicians in the group’s own symphony orchestra and chorus in a performance of Carmina Burana - better known nowadays as theme tune of the X Factor.

Armonico Consort is appealing to parents, who are keen for their children to be involved, to sign up for this opportunity. It will take place at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford on Sunday July 10 and rehearsals, which last one hour 15 minutes, take place at 5pm at Coten End School in Warwick.

Artistic Director Christopher Monks said: “As a lad, in addition to the weekly fun of taking part in musical groups, it was the spectacular things which fed my hunger to do more. “It is now our turn to do for the young people in this area what others did for me. Music and participation in musical groups has the power to change lives – and that is what we exist to do.” If you would like to get your child involved email Laura Berridge at [email protected] or go online.www.armonico.org.uk
