Richard Phillips, Leamington Music’s festival director, said: “It does seem extraordinary that Leamington, acknowledged as one of the leading centres for chamber music in Britain, has never hosted the Chilingirian Quartet before.

“The invitation does actually go back to an appearance by the quartet in Warwick in the Music in the Round series in early 2008. The time lag is explained by the timetable for booking the quality quartets that make our winter series so special.

“The Chilingirian formed in 1971 in London with four outstanding prize-winners eager to get to grips with the wonderful string quartet literature. Levon Chilingirian the leader and the cellist Philip de Groote are the two remaining founders, who have been joined by Susie Meszaros on viola and more recently Ronald Birks as second violin.

“Ronnie is of course well known to local audiences as a member of another famous British quartet, now retired, The Lindsays.”

The concert starts at 7.30pm.
