After meeting Rugby World Cup winners Martin Johnson and Lewis Moody at Twickenham last weekend, Old Leamingtonians coach Dave Brooker admits his under-12 side will not forget their Aviva Premiership Rugby final experience in a hurry.
As Saracens and Exeter Chiefs battled it out for Aviva Premiership glory, Old Leamingtonians under-12s also descended on rugby HQ for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
And Brooker’s youngsters not only enjoyed a Q&A with Johnson and Moody but the team also had their photo taken pitchside with the World Cup winners before the game.
Their time to shine was reward for their performances at a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup festival held by Wasps in April and Brooker said his team loved every minute of their experience of a lifetime.
“The boys were looking forward to it for about four or five weeks - ever since they won the Land Rover Cup back in April they were that excited,” he said.
“We were late in arriving on the day, but Martin Johnson helped us get all the coaches on the pitch and in the photograph, so it’s a proud moment for everyone at the club.
“We’ve got a really big squad - we had to cut it down which was really hard to do.
“We’ve got the best club you could possibly imagine and they’ve all worked so hard to get to Twickenham.
“Some of those will be back playing at Twickenham in the future, of that I have no doubt.
“My heart was on Exeter to win the game, but, as my head suggested, Saracens did enough to grind down the Chiefs and get a deserved win.”
