Andy Smith and Jean Petty took the top honours when Avon Valley Indoor Bowls Club staged their club championships in Gaydon last weekend.
The experienced Smith produced a grindingly accurate display of shot-making to claim a resounding 21-11 success over Tony Thurlbeck in the men’s championship.
The ladies’ championship was equally one-sided with club stalwart Petty overcoming Jeanne Shillington by the same scoreline.
There was an exciting conclusion to the men’s triples, with the final going to a play-off after the match had been tied at 18-18.
After plenty of fine draw bowling and good running woods, Matt Wordingham was the hero of the hour when he skillfully sent up a running wood to slam the jack into the ditch, winning the match for a trio which also contained George Schwab and Rob Maries.
Mark Smith claimed two trophies, winning both the under-25 singles and the Sid Hitchman singles, while the Kay Kennard singles went to Heather Tredgold.
Wordingham added the men’s pairs title to his triples trophy, teaming up with Bill Claridge to win the cup.
The ladies’ triples went to Beryl Tatlow, June Hands and Ruth Carey, with Jaqui Cook and Di Thurlbeck combining for the ladies’ pairs.
Husband and wife Bill and Bridie Ward took home the mixed doubles trophy.
Three of Warwickshire’s Juniors have been called up for a Junior International trial at Victoria Park on Monday May 25 (10.30am).
The players selected are Craig Carter (Rugby), Adam Smith and Matt Wordingham (both Avenue Leamington).
