Kenilworth’s Sarah-Jane Perry suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of American number one Amanda Sobhy in the final of the NetSuite Open in San Francisco.
Sobhy started strongly, applying her trademark attacking style to take the opening game before Perry responded to level the scores at one game apiece.
Sobhy, 22, again reasserted her status as one of the sport’s most promising talents to take the third and despite watching two match balls go to waste, she regrouped to take the fourth game and the championship 11-5, 4-11, 11-5, 12-10.
The two are set to meet again in the first round of the US Open which gets under way on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Perry was recently on hand at Crackley Lane to publicise World Squash Day which takes place on Saturday October 10.
Kenilworth are marking the event with an open day (noon to 3pm) for potential new members.
