Cherry picked off by in-form Lovett for familiar finish

Emily Lovett paced her run to perfection to claim a fourth successive win in the Mid-Warwickshire Primary Schools’ Cross Country League.

The final race of the series took in two laps of a muddy Priory Park in Warwick, with the Long Itchington pupil overhauling Rosie Cherry (Telford) on the second circuit to complete a full house and leave Cherry with a third runners-up spot.

There was disappointment for Harbury’s girls’ team, who had won the previous three races but were unable to field a complete four at Priory Park due to illness, falling to sixth in the standings as a consequence.

Telford took advantage to claim the overall win, with second-placed Burton Green also securing the Small Schools’ Trophy.

The boys’ race was won by Budbrooke’s Elliot Warner, with his twin Will coming through the field to take third behind Jack Reeve (Long Itchington).

Luke Sibley (St Margaret’s), who had run very well in the first three races, missed out on an Overall Best Runners Award, having failed to finish the race.
