Superhero illustrator creates mask covers for airline's young passengers

Flight company easyJet will make air travel fun for children after announcing that it is to resume operations from June 15.

As from June 3, flights will be on sale until the end of May 2021 and flights for summer 2021 will continue to be put on sale throughout the coming months.

Passengers will have to wear face masks as part of ramped-up safety measures.

Comic-book face mask covers for children  have been designed by Will Sliney, who is best known for his work on Marvel comics and Star Wars.

The ‘Lion’ and ‘Pilot’ masks  will be made available for free to young travellers aged six years upwards who fly with easyJet.

Fun designs

Will  said: “Flying with face masks is going to be a new experience for everyone, especially young children so I hope these fun designs, inspired by comic book characters, help to encourage kids to wear their masks onboard.

“I have used a combination of a lion animal character and a futuristic pilot to create a set of mask covers to bring out the inner superhero in all young flyers.

“As a parent myself I know how tricky travelling can be, so I hope these fun face masks covers can help make things easier for parents too.”

Highest priority

Captain David Morgan, easyJet’s director of flight operations said: “The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew remains our highest priority which is why, as well as requiring customers and crew to wear masks, we are implementing a number of measures enhancing safety at each part of the journey from aircraft disinfection to initially serving no food onboard.

“These measures will remain in place for as long as is needed to ensure customers and crew are able to fly safely as the world continues to recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic."

The airline has confirmed that several flights will resume from June 15 including from London Gatwick, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Belfast.Initially flying will principally be on domestic routes alongside a minimal number of international routes.

The airline expects to increase flying as customer demand builds and restrictions are relaxed with the number of flights rising in July and into the summer. Around 30 per cent of flying is planned over the final three months of summer.

To protect customers and ground crew in the airport, easyJet customers will be able to use the automated bag drop to check in their hold luggage. Screens will be in place at check-in desks and at airports where auto bag drop is not available.

Onboard, and where possible, crew will invite customers to sit at distance from customers not in their party where seats are available.
