Thanks for your generous support

May we thank everyone who donated so very generously to our four day collection at the Royal Priors over the Bank Holiday weekend when £3,091.35 was raised for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal. May we also thank the staff at the Royal Priors for allowing us to collect at very short notice and for making our team of collectors so welcome.

Further donations were made at the Leamington Music Festival at the Pump Rooms and the total raised to date stands at £3,464.19.

Save the Children has been working in Nepal since 1976 and we work in 63 out of the 75 districts in the country. Since the earthquake on April 25, we have been responding to the urgent needs of children, many of whom are injured, without shelter and basic items. Around 2 million children are affected by the disaster. A UK government-funded emergency medical team, managed by Save the Children, is assessing needs and supporting local medical staff by providing surgery to those who need it most.

Our teams have also reached more than 37,000 people distributing supplies such as tarpaulins, baby packs – which include children’s clothes, blankets and soap – to those in need in some of the hardest-hit regions.

More than 160,000 homes have been completely destroyed, and families are homeless and living in camps. We have now set up a safe space for children to rest and play in the wake of the disaster in Bhaktapur.

Our work will go on for many months to come.

Ann Bailey, Honorary Secretary, Leamington, Warwick & Kenilworth branch, Save the Children
