Witness appeal after Coventry City fan attacked by Bristol Rovers fan

A 24-year-old Coventry City fan was attacked by a travelling Bristol Rovers fan after the two sides played each other at the Ricoh Arena this Saturday (March 25).

The assault reportedly took place in Judds Lane, near the road leading to Rowleys Green Lane. Several taxis were waiting on the road as the incident happened.

The perpetrator is described as around 6ft tall and wearing a black jacket which had a Bristol Rovers logo on it. He was accompanied by a friend.

The two men also reportedly accosted other Coventry fans as spectators were leaving the ground and the traffic attendants who were working around the traffic lights near the roundabout next to Judds Lane had spotted the taller man.

Bristol Rovers condemned the attack in a statement on their website.

A spokesman for the club said: “Whilst the passionate support given to the team was second to none, unfortunately we have been advised that a very small minority of our supporters did not represent our great club as we would have liked.

“We do not want individuals like this associated with Bristol Rovers Football Club and we would ask if any of our fans witnessed the incident in question, or knows the name of either of those involved, to help trace the individuals involved.”

Anyone with any information should call 101 and ask for West Midlands Police, or should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
