Strong opinions have been expressed both for and against the garden bar being built at the Grade II listed Black Pug, formerly The Millwright Inn, in Coton End.

People living near the pub are concerned about the extra noise the bar could cause if it attracts more people out to the garden.

They are also concerned about the pubs campaign on social media to rally support for the application from patrons, with people who do not live near the premises commenting on the matter.

Applicant and pub owner Matt Crowther said: "During a normal winter we have space for 60 inside our pub, when the sun is shining we have an amazing garden with space for 242 seated customers, the internal bar becomes a bottleneck slowing service keeping our guests waiting.

"We want to build an outdoor bar in the garden not only to enable us to serve our guests quicker and better but also to have a fixed position to supervise, attend to and manage the safety of our guests.

"It will allow us to mitigate as much contact as possible indoors and in high foot traffic areas."
