A hammer and a garden fork were among the items found during a weapons sweep carried out by anti-knife campaigners in Leamington parks.

Benjamin Spann, of the Change Your Life Put Down Your Knife campaign, and a small team used a metal detector to sweep the Eagle Recreation Ground and Fords Fields searching through bushes, hedgerows and other prime locations weapons could be concealed.

Benjamin, who is standing in the forthcoming local elections for the Brunswick Ward in May representing the UK Voice party, said: "Knife crime and county lines go hand in hand , the cross county gangs use parks and other public places to conceal weapons to eliminate the risk of being caught in possession by the authorities.

"Th blade must have been at least 14 inches long and somewhere on our streets is the knife that fits the cover.

"I would like to thank the local volunteers who took there time out out on Mothering Sunday to help create a safer environment for our children and help keep our streets safe."
