The Warwick and Leamington’s Covid-19 Support Group has helped thousands of residents and their families - but some of them live further away than the Warwick district.

The group was set up in March 2020 and in the space of a year the group’s coordinators have streamlined services so that hundreds of vulnerable residents have been able to access essential deliveries of food and medication while shielding or quarantining.

Meanwhile, the Phone Pals team has made thousands of calls to lonely and socially isolated people throughout the district.

As well as helping those local, the group have also helped people across the world.

Annie Thorne was just one of those far-flung Leamingtonians requesting the group's assistance from Wellington, New Zealand, where she has lived since 2006.

Annie said: “The Covid-19 Support Group's Facebook Group enabled me to keep an eye on what was happening and through the page’s recommendations, I was able to support my mum, Elizabeth, with safe deliveries of food and other essential supplies, despite the distance.

“When I was planning a visit in December, as Dad was in Myton Hospice, the Group came to my aid again with suggestions of places to stay while isolating.

"Earlier on in the year, I had even found a Facebook follower on the Group page raising money for Myton with some beautiful rainbow tote bags, and was able to make a contribution by purchasing them for friends and family in New Zealand."

And people can still purchase Tracy Tuckett's 'Rainbow range' for Myton Hospice by going to the fundraising page at www.creative-embroiders.co.ukFor more information about the Facebook group go to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/warwickleamingtoncovidhelp
