Opening of Warwick's new-style visitor information centre marks official reopening of town's businesses

Warwick s new-style visitor information centre inside the Court House in Jury Street has been officially reopened.

This morning (April 12) officially marked the day where many businesses across England reopened after being closed due to lockdown.

In Warwick, The Mayor, Cllr Terry Morris, cut the ribbon at the visitor information centre, which underwent a refurbishment, to officially mark the reopening of all of the town's shops, hairdressers, gyms and outside areas at pubs and restaurants.

The Town Crier rang his bell to introduce the Mayor on the steps of the Court House, where official proclamations have been made for nearly 300 years.

Cllr Morris said: “The local businesses and historic venues in the county town rely on being able to welcome visitors, especially during the summer months, so we are delighted to be open again.

"There are plenty of outdoor seating areas at our pubs and cafes, a wide choice of takeaway foods, and a unique range of independent shops.

"And with the castle's outdoor attractions reopened, Warwick is a great place for a day out.

"I hope everyone will respect the distancing measures still in place, wearing their masks llinside shops and showing consideration to staff.

"The new-look visitor centre will be open seven days a week to welcome and direct visitors, sell tickets for the castle, and provide maps for the Town Trail.

"Historic Warwick is open again.”

The Mayor then toured the centre of town, presenting certificates to the shops and businesses that were reopening after 103 days of lockdown since the end of last year.

The information centre in the Court House has been revamped during the lockdown to create more safe space for visitors and the refurbishment also provides larger areas for displays, gifts and exhibitions of local arts and crafts.
