A Kenilworth lawyer who runs her own small law firm in the town features in a historic book which marks the achievements of women in law in the last 100 years.

Amina Brooks, of AB Legal Services Ltd, is pictured in the book with her young son James and is quoted saying :"The [Covid-19] pandemic and lockdown have made me reflect deeply on my dual role as a mother and a lawyer.

"I have now decided to start my own small practice so I can spend more time with my family."

Amina said she aims to "assist members of her local community with their day to day legal issues".

She is a member of Soroptimist International - Kenilworth and District and 'absolutely loves living in Kenilworth' where her husband Tony grew up.

The book, In Her Words, is part of a landmark project which was founded by former female lawyer Dana Denis-Smith.

The project was launched in the House of Lords in 2016 and included a worldwide photo shoot just before lockdown on International Women's Day in 2020.

In Her Words is described by Dana as 'a unique snapshot of women in the legal profession from around the world at a defining point in their history: following a century of progress but in the midst of a global crisis causing profound uncertainty'.

Dana has said: "This is purposefully a collection of portraits and subsequent reflections by ordinary women lawyers reflecting on their hopes for the future as the pandemic forced them to stop and stand still for longer than any of us could have envisaged on those special days in March 2020.

"We are delighted to create this physical memento of 2020 so future generations may understand the legal world as it was for us.”
