Eight-year-old girl from Warwick completes marathon challenge

An eight-year-old girl from Warwick has completed a marathon challenge.

Maisie Lee from Warwick and Grace Robinson from Redditch, who is also aged eight, both helped raise £700 for Alcester-based not-for-profit organisation Marathon Kids UK after each completed a cumulative marathon during March.

The pair recorded the 26.2-mile distance with time to spare, and sponsorships generated by them both means the Marathon Kids UK organisation can continue to provide fully-funded running opportunities for children across the UK.

The March Madness Challenge was designed to inspire children of all ages to increase their activity levels as winter gave way to spring.

Christopher McShane, the newly appointed managing director of Marathon Kids UK, said: "It’s a fantastic achievement by Maisie and Grace, and everyone at the organisation has been so impressed with their commitment to the cause.

"We are incredibly fortunate to be supported financially by sporting behemoth Nike, but we also rely on so many contributions like this from kind-hearted, enthusiastic runners such as Maisie and Grace."

Marathon Kids UK operates in schools and parks, and with children recently returning to classrooms, the school's programme has quickly got back up to speed.

Last weekend Marathon Kids returned to parks, with 11 sessions taking place across the Midlands including Alcester, Southam and Warwick.
