Kenilworth bookshop takeover imminent

The future of a Kenilworth bookshop on the brink of closure is looking brighter after an imminent takeover.

The Tree House Bookshop in The Square was struggling financially for some time, and owner Victoria Mier admitted last March that the shop was not commercially viable due to rising business rates.

But after a brief stint as a social enterprise, it will now be run as a commercial venture once the takeover is complete.

However, Victoria was reluctant to give full details of the takeover as the deal has not been completely finalised yet, although more details are likely to emerge next week.

Speaking about the new arrangement, she said: “This is a great solution - I am proud of what we have achieved over the last three years, with masses of support on various levels from many people, and I will miss some of the aspects of all of that.

“It’s heartbreaking on a personal level but a good solution in so many practical ways.

“It’s fabulous that Kenilworth will still have a second-hand bookshop, and I am confident that it will be a better bookshop because of the new direction.”

There will be a few changes at the bookshop - the shop will now buy secondhand books from customers instead of accepting them as donations.

Additionally, the shop will no longer be serving tea and coffee, although there will still be refreshments served at evening events.

Victoria will still be in the shop three days a week and will carry on organising the shop’s evening events.

The shop’s opening hours will remain the same, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
