A field fire broke out in Southam late on Thursday in what could have involved up to 2,000 bales of hay.

Firefighters were called to the land off Welsh Road West just after 11.30pm on January 28.

Three engines were sent, including two from Leamington and crews said as many as “2000 bales of hay” were involved.

A Warwickshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Fire fighters are standing by, making regular assessments of the fire and allowing the fire to burn out safely.”

The flames were blazing for well over an hour and one resident nearby described the fire as “huge” in the field.

More details to come.
