The third phase of work will be to restore the church tower, which was built in 1704 and can be seen for miles.

The cost of the tower’s repair has been estimated at £650,000,

Last Saturday the church volunteers held their first fundraising event called , ‘Love of Course’.

The fundraiser managed to raise £2,000 for the restoration project.

Vaughan Roberts, vicar at St Mary’s Church, said: “The Love of Course evening went really, really well. Fantastic music and delicious food in the wonderful setting of St Mary’s Church made for a triumphant evening, which raised £2,000 towards the restoration of St Mary’s iconic tower.”

The next steps for those at St Mary’s Church will be to apply for grants that could help towards the repair bill.
