Clean Air For Leamington poster competition winners receive praise from mayor and author

Primary school pupils have been congratulated by the Mayor of Leamington for their winning entries into a oster competition aimed at trying to encourage residents to keep walking and cycling.

The campaign group Clean Air For Leamington teamed up with author Loll Kirby to launch to competition for which the winners were announced via a video conference call 'awards ceremony'.

There were three equal winners Anoushka Christodolo, Freya Precious and Maya Rübner Joergensen.

Cllr Susan Rasmussen, Mayor of Leamington, said: “Congratulations to all three girls, you certainly used your creativity in a brilliant cause to produce some outstanding posters.

“We have all been enjoying quieter streets and roads during lockdown.

"Some people have taken advantage of them to run or cycle as families get out and about together.

“When schools and workplaces reopen there is a risk that our roads will be busier than before if people choose cars over public transport. We need to remind drivers to slow down and take extra care so that we can all use roads safely and improve Leamington’s air quality.”

Loll’s new book Old Enough to Save the Planet tells the stories of extraordinary young people who have taken action to address climate change.

Talking to the girls and their proud families, Loll said they were as inspiring as the children all around the world she has written about.

The three winners all received their prize of a signed copy of the book.
