'˜Disappointment' after Kenilworth's NatWest branch stays committed to closing

Kenilworth's NatWest branch will not be changing its mind over its June closure, despite a 430-signature petition asking them to reconsider.

The bank stayed committed to closing its Warwick Road branch at a meeting held today (Friday March 3) attended by Jeremy Wright MP, NatWest Midlands CEO Martin French and member of the Kenilworth and Southam Liberal Democrats Richard Dickson. Richard started the petition after the announcement was made back in December 2016. NatWest said they decided to close because fewer customers were using the branch in person.

Richard said: “It was clear that NatWest were not interested in any possibility of changing their mind. It’s not great at all.

“I’m just as disappointed as I was when the announcement was made in the first place.”

Although NatWest announced the role of a ‘Community Banker’ to help those who used the branch, the meeting revealed it was unclear exactly what services they will help with.

Richard added: “I raised with NatWest a number of specific examples of services for which customers currently use the branch, such as opening bank account, setting up a Power of Attorney, changing a charity account mandate and safe custody services.

“It’s clear that NatWest has not yet determined the full list of services which the Community Banker will be able to help customers with and which will require the inconvenience of a trip to either Coventry or Leamington.”

The bank is due to close on Tuesday June 13.
