A man who assaulted three police officers after being arrested following an incident outside a woman’s home, and then damaged a police cell in a disgusting way has been jailed.

Darren Amor (47) of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to three charges of assaulting emergency workers and one of causing criminal damage.

He was jailed for a total of 14 months for the assaults, with a consecutive two-month sentence for his ‘disgusting’ damage to the cell at Leamington police station.

Prosecutor Oliver Weetch said that on June 6 the police were called to a woman’s address in Leamington, because of Amor’s behaviour outside the property.

When officers arrived Amor was abusive towards them, shouting and swearing at them as he was arrested.

He warned them that they should not search him because he had hypodermic needles on him, and began spitting while claiming to have HIV and hepatitis C.

When Amor was restrained, he tried to bite a female officer’s leg, and he kicked out as he was being put into a cage in the back of a police van.

He also headbutted a sergeant and hurled abuse at him, threatening to slice his head off.

At Leamington police station Amor had to be carried to the cell area, and kicked out at officers, painfully kicking one of them to the groin.

“In the cell he had a wound to his leg which he deliberately opened and spread blood around the cell, using water from the toilet to spread it further.

“He also defecated and spread it around the cell and on the cell camera, throwing his excrement around the cell which had to be professionally cleaned,” said Mr Weetch.

He pointed out that Amor had ‘an entrenched pattern of offending against police officers who are doing their duty,’ with his record including 21 previous offences of assaulting or obstructing officers.

Rashad Mohammed, defending, said: “He acknowledges and recognises his behaviour on this day was out of order.

“The offences normally always arise out of the defendant’s state at the time. He was intoxicated, and he recognises he’s someone who has a drink problem.

“He also had a dependency on heroin and crack cocaine, but since he’s been in custody he has been receiving help.”

Mr Mohammed added that Amor, who denies spitting at the officers, has tested negative for the diseases he claimed to have.

Jailing Amor, Judge Peter Cooke told him: “As has been said, you are a man with an entrenched pattern of offending against police officers.

“Officers were called to an incident and, as you do, you turned your attention to them.

“You were uttering threats. Whether they were empty threats or not, the officers were not to know. They were not to know you did not actually have those conditions, and you tried to bite an officer’s leg.

“She found that very distressing. She is a young officer, and it was the first time she had been on the receiving end of such behaviour. She doesn’t deserve that when she goes out to work.

“At the police station you kicked out at an officer as you were being carried to a cell where your disgusting behaviour continued.

“You opened up a wound, posing a threat of further infection by spreading it around, and you deliberately fouled your cell with faeces and water from the toilet, having made it overflow. Disgusting.”
