A woman has been cautioned for wasting police time after making false claims of sexual assault in Kenilworth.

Police launched a major investigation on September 8 after a woman in her 20s reported being attacked in Dalehouse Lane.

The woman, who has not been named following the police caution, told officers that she was walking near the railway bridge at around 5.15am on Monday when she was approached by two men and sexually assaulted.

Detectives from Leamington CID carried out an extensive search of the area, completed house-to-house inquiries and studied CCTV footage.

The investigation involved dozens of officers including detectives and forensic experts as well as days of police time in hope of finding the men responsible.

Detective Inspector Liam Barry thanked everyone who helped with a search.

He assured residents that a ‘full and thorough’ investigation is always carried out with reports of serious crime.
