A Leamington woman who has been at the heart of supporting people with learning disabilities in Warwickshire for 50 years has won a national award.

As we reported last month, Sheila Cunningham, who continues to act as a trustee for the Lillington-based Way Ahead Support Services, was shortlisted for the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Directory of Social Change - and now she has been selected as the winner.

Having began her support work in 1966, as a young mother of a toddler with learning disabilities, she went on to set up Mid Warwickshire Mencap and saw the charity grow into a successful organisation that supports people in Warwick, Leamington and Kenilworth.

The Directory of Social Change provides training and free resources to charities and its awards celebrate the achievements made in the voluntary sector.
