Ideas shared for Barford leisure upgrade

More than 100 villagers turned out to look at proposals to introduce improved sports and recreational facilities to the playing field at Barford.

Members of the joint parish council of Barford, Wasperton and Sherbourne set up a working group to look at everything from installing multi-surface all-weather pitches to play equipment and picnic benches.

And most of the possibilities were on display in Barford village hall last Saturday.

Parish council chairman John Murphy said: “It was a great turnout and it was heartening to listen to ideas from people of all ages about the sorts of facilities they would like to see.

“We had children drawing up their wish lists of items, senior folk talking about walking facilities and of course lots of exciting comments about upgrading play equipment.

“We’ve been looking at this issue for some time and now there appears to be a strong level of interest in creating a sustainable and much needed facility.

“This will give villagers access to something for which they currently have to travel to other parts of the area to enjoy.”

Parish, district and county councillors, along with local MP Chris White, were among those who took the opportunity to visit the exhibition and pass on their comments.

Survey forms were also completed and once all the feedback has been analysed, there will be a fundraising campaign. It’s hoped work can start towards the end of next year.
