Swathes of the north of England are now under coronavirus restrictions, which entail a ban on mixing with other households and, in some places, restrictions on travel.

A total of 46 other areas, while not yet under renewed restrictions, are being monitored closely by the government due to an increase in cases.

In these places, residents are not allowed to mix with other households in their house or garden, and hospitality businesses will be restricted to certain opening hours.

A total of 46 areas are being monitored closely by the government to determine whether local restrictions will be necessary. Areas are categorised under the following three labels:

Area(s) of concern: Areas with the highest prevalence of coronavirus, where the local area is taking targeted actions to reduce prevalence (for example, additional testing in care homes and increased community engagement with high risk groups)Area(s) for enhanced support: For areas at medium or high risk of intervention, where there is a more detailed plan, agreed with the national team and with additional resources being provided to support the local team (such as epidemiological expertise, additional mobile testing capacity)Area(s) of intervention: Where there is divergence from the measures in place in the rest of England because of the significance of the spread, with a detailed action plan in place, and local resources augmented with a national support
