Land was used for kickabouts for years
WDC’s own officers have identified St Mary Lands as the most important public space for the West Warwick Ward, which is one of the most deprived in the entire district. Yet the WDC executive is prepared to punish children and discourage healthy activity by preventing informal kickabouts and successful football teams developing, on land used for more than 50 years for that purpose!
Even more surprising is the “need” for the Racecourse to have additional parking when it already has an agreement for up to 3,500 cars. Are they actually going to be charged for this usage? Is it true that a small community football club has in effect been charged far more (seven times as much) for far fewer facilities than the subsidiaries of a £130 million turnover company? It would seem the council executive would rather have free car parking for Racecourse visitors than leisure facilities for local children?
