Staff at Leamington Art Gallery and Museum will be celebrating Shakespeare’s birthday this weekend with activities suitable for the whole family.

On Saturday (March 21) and Sunday youngsters can follow a Horrible Histories-style trail of “Gruesome Gripes” and can even mix up their own “cures” in a 16th century apothecary’s shop before meeting an actor cast in the role of the traditional barber/surgeon.

Museum spokeswoman Penelope Thomas said: “These drop-in sessions are all free and will offer children their first encounter with Shakespeare’s life, work and times in a fun and engaging way, including the use of puppets.”

Visitors will learn about the four humours Elizabethan doctors diagnosed in their patients - sometimes with disastrous consequences.
