The 23-year-old was an aspiring Premier League footballer who had spent eight years with the Birmingham City Academy when an unprovoked assault in 2009 left him with brain damage and deaf in one ear.

He spoke about the importance of participating in sport and how his determination to overcome his challenges allowed him to fulfil his potential and follow his sporting dream.

He went on to describe the event as “brilliant as it gives everyone a chance”.

In addition to Olympic sports, Paralympic and inclusive sports also featured with a Campion student who took part in the fencing saying: “It’s great to try something new and to meet so many other people.”

The success of the event was helped by the young volunteers who took on roles such as officiating, timekeeping and scorekeeping as part of their sports leadership programmes.

Provisional dates have already been put in place for the 2014-2015 area competitions.

Schools can enter these from September and parents can log onto www.yourschoolgames.com to view the competitions available to their school.
