Willis returns to play at Warwick Boat Club after whirlwind few weeks

Marcus Willis returned to Warwick Boat Club on Saturday for the first time since his Wimbledon heroics to be presented with life-long tennis membership of the club.

Willis was at the club alongside girlfriend Jenny Bate for an exhibition match which was set up before his seven-match winning run to a second-round clash with Roger Federer.

Warwick Boat Club tennis captain, Peter Grant said: “Marcus’ success has been such an inspiring and uplifting story. We have received press enquiries from as far away as Japan and New Zealand, his story has been that phenomenal.

“We really appreciate that he will continue playing league matches and coaching at the club, and that both he and Jenny still found time, after very little sleep over the last few days, to come and take part in the exhibition match yesterday which was appreciated by a very receptive crowd.”

Before the couple headed off to London for the annual Wimbledon ball, Willis spoke of the phenomenal support he has received.

“It has been an amazing couple of weeks and the warmth from the public and Warwick Boat Club has been fantastic.

“It has really inspired me to knuckle down and really focus on the game. Coaching will continue as well as entering a lot more tournaments.”
