Harborne leak goals as Khalsa pile the pressure on leaders

Khalsa boosted their goal difference to heap further pressure on league leaders Leek, running riot in the second half against Birmingham-based Harborne.

Leamington opened the scoring courtesy of an Aaron Nagra drag-flick into the top corner within the first five minutes and doubled their advantage through Ben Scott after another well-worked short corner.

Harborne were not without chances of their own and several short corners in quick succession were repelled by home keeper Elliot Rider.

Alex Idoine had two chances to add to the tally but both were well off target and, despite Jack Wells and Stuart Gooderham controlling the midfield and probing runs from Chris Darling, Khalsa had to be content with a two-goal cushion at the break.

After the interval, Khalsa pressed higher up the pitch through Gurminder Ghattaura and Amritpal Atwal and were rewarded with a goal from Steve Davison, who held his nerve in a one-on-one.

It was all Khalsa now and Scott added to his tally with a scrappy short-corner effort which he tapped home from close range.

Against the run of play, Harborne broke and scored with a penalty stroke after Rider made contact with the attacker.

Jas Singh restored the home side’s four-goal cushion after being picked out at the back post by Steve Davison.

Ghattaura made it 6-1 after a clever reverse-stick strike from David Harris allowed him to nudge the ball home from close range.

Nagra converted a short corner and Harris was again on the mark with a superb reverse-stick strike into the corner of the goal.

The pick of Khalsa’s goals came from Anit Chudasama, who received a disguised pass from Ben Scott before driving the ball home .

With Khalsa in cruise control, Scott Angliss pounced on a rebound to score his first goal of the season and Amritpal Atwal rounded off the scoring with a calm finish after being put clean through.

Khalsa remain three points behind Leek, who beat Bournville 4-0, having played a game less, with the leaders boasting a better goal difference by seven.

Khalsa 2nds suffered an 8-4 defeat at the hands of title-chasing University of Birmingham in the Midlands Premier while the 3rds went down 4-1 at home to fellow mid-table side Derby in the East Midlands Premier.
