Avenue’s Lyn Houghton claimed a notable scalp in the first round of the two wood at the Bowls England Women’s National Championships at Victoria Park.

Houghton claimed a convincing 18-7 victory over Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ellen Falkner (Cambridgeshire B) and now goes on to meet Thatcham’s Bet Aubrey (Berkshire B) in the second round.

Fellow Warwickshire representative Jenny Corn (Lilligton) is out, however.

Corn went down 14-9 to Berkshire B representative Lorraine Kuehler (Homefield Park).

Meanwhile, Royal Leamington Spa’s Dawn Horne and Janice White exited in the second round of the senior pairs.
