Cleary’s Gym’s Jake Finch shook off a lost kitbag to rack up his fourth win in four weeks at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.

The novice lost all his boxing gear when the boot of the car he was travelling in came open on the motorway.

But, wearing borrowed kit, including his brother’s gum shield and hard to find size four boots, Finch still went on to beat Midlands champion Sam Gwilt (Priory Park ABC) on points.

Finch was further hampered by being unable to use his inhaler, which was also inside his bag, and therefore had to pace himself sensibly to last the distance.

However, coach Edwin Cleary said the boxer was unfazed by the setbacks.

“For such a noviceto get in the ring with all of this hassle, dominate the fight from start to finish and win by a unanimous decision shows me he’s a fighter who really wants this,” said Cleary.

“How many young fighters could have done this in only their fourth fight with a smile on his face and thinking it was funny?”

Jake’s younger brother Josh also competed on the Walsall show, showing good quality in his skills bout.
