Cleary’s boxer Lewis Williams has been invited to join the England Talent Programme after impressing assessors at the National Youth Championships.

The programme aims to “identify, select and develop the best boxers into future world class athletes”, with heavyweight Williams making the cut for the 91kg division.

Coach Edwin Cleary said the call-up was reward for the 17-year-old’s desire.

“Lewis really has dedicated his life to boxing, training as hard as he possibly can,” said Cleary.

“He listens and always wants to learn.

“There’s so much more to come from him but the hard work starts now.”

Williams travels to Sheffield on Sunday bidding to gain selection for England’s Youth European Championship squad.
