Practice yet to make us perfect, admits Hayden

Racing Club Warwick manager Michael Hayden is hoping tomorrow’s FA Vase trip to Shifnal Town will prove a useful distraction from an “up and down” start to the Midland League Division One campaign.

Racers sit in the lower reaches of the table following a 3-1 defeat to Cadbury, and Hayden says his side need to start translating their form on the training pitch into performances when it matters.

“It’s been an up and down season so far,” said Hayden.

The main thing is that we have not reached our full potential yet.

“We’re too inconsistent, a good 20 minutes here, a bad 20 minutes there.

“We haven’t played too badly but as a team we need to click together and perform to the level we do in training.”

Shifnal are yet to register a win in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division this season but Hayden is under no illusions what a tough task his side faces in Shropshire.

“It’s massive for us. A massive challenge and not just the financial benefits.

“Playing in the Vase gives players a reputation.

“It’s about time we rose to the challenge.”

In Division Two, Kenilworth Town recovered from 2-1 down to beat Knowle 3-2 at Gypsy Lane.

Jordan Brandish’s first-half penalty gave a youthful Town side an interval lead, but Knowle hit back after the break with goals from Matt Botley and Lawrence Shannon.

However, the battling hosts refused to lie down and a second for Brandish and a Pearce Gaffney strike gave Town all three points.
