O’Callaghan believes he can progress with Racing Club

Racing Club boss Curly O’Callaghan has ruled himself out of a return to Southam, saying there is no reason to make the switch.
Two wins in two games have propelled Racers up the Midland Combination table and led to speculation that Southam chairman Charles Hill may try and entice O’Callaghan back to Banbury Road.
But O’Callaghan, who has undergone an extensive rebuilding job at Townsend Meadow following Lee Knight’s departure, says he has still not finished recruiting and feels he can fulfil his ambitions at Warwick.
“I’m no different to the players in that I want to test myself at a higher level,” said O’Callaghan.
“But there’s no reason for me to go anywhere else.
“I’ve got an affection for Southam as I’ve managed there before.
“But I’m quite happy where I am.”
The former Woodford manager’s latest recruit, Josh Blake, featured in Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Bromsgrove Sporting.
Blake finished last season at Banbury and links up with former Leamington team-mate Stuart Herlihy at Hampton Road.
And while O’Callaghan is delighted to have snared the prolific hitman, he says he fully expects Southern League clubs to come sniffing around as the season progresses.
“I know when he’s fit and at it he could easily return to the Southern League,” said O’Callaghan.
“If a Southern League club comes in I’ll let Josh speak to them.
“But until I hear any different, Josh is staying with us.”
Blake was unable to open his account against Bromsgrove in midweek, seeing one effort cleared off the line and another just clear the bar.
However, Herlihy did notch up his first goal for the club with his second-half header claiming all three points after Ed Kostuck’s first-half strike had been cancelled out by a penalty.
It brought Kostuck’s tally to three in two games, with the youngster having scored a brace in Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing of Castle Vale JKS.
Nathan Edgington and David Bailey were Racers’ other marksmen.
Racing Club are without a fixture tomorrow but return to league action on Tuesday night with a trip to Earlswood Town.
