Racing Club lose out in an eight-goal thriller

In a week that saw players released from Racing Club after abusing club conduct rules and an administrative error preventing the registration of three new players, the squad was again stretched.

However, club captain Tom Reynolds made a welcome return to the bench after recovering from an operation.

It took just two minutes for Lichfield to open the scoring through Jordan Hunt but Wade Malley equalised ten minutes later after a delightful through ball from Joseph Wright.

Malley poked just wide and was then just unable to meet a cross from Wright before Lichfield scored from a free-kick courtesy of Luke Chapman.

Mark Turton latched on to a through ball from Jake Brown to coolly round the keeper and bring Warwick level, only for sloppy home defending to allow Chapman to add his second five minutes before the interval.

Reynolds made a welcome return to the fold five minutes into the second half and Joe Ashworth came on for Malley as Racing Club sought a way back.

However, Lichfield made it 4-2 when Richard Deavall fired home from the spot after a handball and stretched their lead through Hunt after Warwick failed to clear a cross.

Martin Slevin scored direct from a corner after spotting the keeper off the line and then almost set up a dramatic final five minutes when a free-kick from 30 yards sailed just wide.

Warwick will look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to Uttoxeter.
