Holleran is excited by Leamington potential

As exclusively revealed on the Leamington Courier website on Thursday, former skipper Jamie Hood has returned to the club from Barwell, bringing the pre-season captures to seven.

It concludes a busy week, with Jake Jones moving to Brakes from Kings Lynn and former Northampton midfielder Ross Oulton also coming in.

And while he knows his new acquisitions will take time to gel, Holleran believes he has hit upon the right mix of experience and potential to reinvigorate the New Windmill.

“I’m pleased with the way it’s gone,” said Holleran. “There’s been a bit of upheaval but I think we needed that.

“We needed a bit of a facelift and the supporters want to see something different.

“We’ve got experience and youth, with three or four players who, if they fulfil their potential, will go on to be good players.”

With Matt Warner set to be joined in the squad by another graduate of the under-21 side and a couple of triallists also lined up, there is not expected to be any further movement before Brakes kick-off their pre-season programme against Stafford Rangers on July 11.

However, Holleran says it won’t just be the personnel who will be different when the campaign gets under way.

“I’m going into my seventh season at the club and I’m mindful of the need to freshen things up.

“The system we play needs to be looked at and we need to go into games being positive.

“Last season, a lot of the time it was a case of stopping in games and working hard.

“But this season we should be able to ask a few more questions.”
