Kenilworth Town stalwart dies

Brian Clewer

Brian Clewer

Kenilworth Town club patron Brian Clewer has died aged 82.

Clewer joined the club after moving to Kenilworth in 1971 following a glittering career with Coventry and North Warwickshire and then Sutton Coldfield which saw him awarded Midlands’ Club Cricket Conference’s Player of the Year in 1964.

The prolific batsman played for a number of teams at the Town and became involved in all aspects of the club, being a member of the general management committee for many years before becoming chairman.

Between 1980 and 1990 Clever was club president, going on to be appointed club patron in 1991, a role he held until his death.

A truly loveable gentleman with a warm heart and a cricketing brain, he will be remembered for his energy, his humour, his honesty and the support he gave to the club and many players over the years.

Kenilworth Town send their sincerest condolences and support to his wife Paddy and their family at this very difficult and sad time.

The funeral will take place on Monday (10am) at Oakley Wood Crematorium, Wellesbourne Road, Bishop’s Tachbrook.
