Young Spa swimmers star
Leamington's young swimmers put in a top performance in the first round of the Mercian Summer League.
They beat teams from Halesowen, Fox Hollies, Northgate, Redditch and Stratford and scoring more points than the other 23 teams taking part - winning half the 50 races and only droping below third place in just two events.
Things started well when Emily Homma won the 4x25m individual medley ladies' open, swiftly followed by relay wins from the girls' under-ten freestyle team, who beat Northgate by a touch.
The under-12 IM girls finished 7sec ahead of Halesowen and a convincing win from the under-14 freestyle girls put Leamington in the lead after the ten events.
The next batch of events extended their advantage over nearest rivals Halesowen. Molly Turner won the under-12 100m breaststroke by a huge 12sec and Jonathan Jones was a close second in the boys' equivalent.
Zoe Cox and Christian Hofstetter both won the under-14 100m backstroke both by 5sec, Jessica Nash missed first place in the under-ten 50m freestyle by a touch and in the under-12 100m backstrokes Hannah Wakeling won and James Foster was second.
There were further wins from Jessica Nunn (under-14 100m butterfly), Natasha Clark (ladies' open 100m backstroke), Harriet Riley (under-ten 50m breaststroke), Millie Evans (under-12 50m butterfly), Charlotte Riley and Jonty Cartwright (under-14 100m freestyle), Max Clarke (under-ten 25m butterfly), Hannah Wakeling and James Foster (under-12 50m freestyle) and Emily Homma (open ladies' 100m freestyle).
Leamington dominated the final ten relays, with further wins in the under-14 girls' and ladies' open 4x25m IM relays and the boys' and girls' under-12 and ladies' open freestyle relays.
Leamington finished on 261pts, ahead of Halesowen 213 and Northgate 195s, putting them in a strong position ahead of round two next month.
